Q.  Greetings Oracle! I was just browsing and read that Chris co-created a band called Bunga. Do you have any facts you can share about it? Thanks!

I'm afraid not. According to the internet, that happened when Chris was at school but I have never ever heard him mention it. I did once ask Will & Jonny about previous bands there were in - I remember one of Will's was called fat Hamster. Pretty sure Guy was also in at least one other band pre-Starfish / Coldplay.

Q.  Coldplay how are you? Hope all's well. Quick question, I play a lot of trad folk music. When I listen to you guys especially when you strip the songs down in an acoustic style I get a sense of an Irish folk sound at times. Are you guys influenced by trad? Multiple guitar tunings are used in trad to get that droning sound. Also who is the Christy Moore fan and what is Coldplay's favourite Christy Moore song? Ps loving the new songs!

I'd say the band are influenced by all genres of music not traditional folk specifically but it's Will who is the biggest Christy Moore fan - always has been.
I'm afraid I don't know which is his / their favourite track but they chose to perform Ride On (written by Jimmy McCarthy) with Christy at Oxegen festival back in 2011.

Q.  Hello Oracle!
I know it may be a bit old, but would the band ever consider recording Sweet Marianne?

I wouldn't think that songs from the past will ever be recorded if they haven't been already. As Sweet Marianne wasn't ever released, it probably won't see the light of day (again).

Q.  So I was searching on wikipedia and I take a look of all songs written by Chris... and no! There are a few of Coldplay songs, did Chris writes all the songs or what?

I think I understand your question.
Chris wrote all Coldplay songs bar one - Sweet Marianne*, written by Will - though the band all have song writing credits.

Chris does write outside of Coldplay; he wrote the anthem for the recent Invictus Games. He has also written for a number of other performers and has collaborated with or featured on other artists records with or without having a hand in the writing.

*Sweet Marianne was played live but never released on a recording.

Q.  Hey Oracle!

In Us Against the World, who sings backup? He has a really beatiful voice, and should do backup more often.
Thanks for taking the time to read this!

Will and he does sing a LOT of backing vocals. He sings most of them in fact.

Q.  Excuse me dear Oracle, I have replayed it a multitude of times but I didn't understood why has Will lost 2 of his favourite trousers in the video of Making Of Ghost Stories.
(I'm so sorry dear Oracle, it's due to my very modest English understanding capacities.)
Thank you very much. Much love from Morocco.

Chris & Will were saying that the sofa / settee / couch in the flat where they rehearsed as students was so old that the springs were poking through. Will used to sit on that chair to play drums. Every time Will got up from the seat, his trousers caught on the broken springs and his trousers were ripped / torn. Hope you understand.

Q.  Hi, all-knowing Oracle! I was just wondering, did Jonny ever use his Lake Placid Blue Fender Telecaster live?

Another one for Matt...
"The only blue Tele I recall is the one Jonny had back in the Parachutes days - a JD model with a big dent in it that actually belongs to Will, who I think got it cheap cos of the damage.
It's now his dressing room/warm up guitar and travels with us pretty much everywhere!"

Q.  How many pairs of sticks does Will go through each night on tour?

Bash - Will's drum tech informs me that it's usually about 4 these days though it used to be alot more.

Q.  Hi Oracle!

I was searching Youtube videos (Yes I have nothing better to do!) and found a video of Chris apologising to Will (with the help of crowd) in San Diego when playing Yellow in 2009, I'm sure you've answered this before but what was that about? The video quality isn't good enough for me to work it out!

Cheers :)

This was all in jest but at the start of the song Chris made a mistake (from what I can gather, there was no acoustic guitar intro). Just before the end of the song, Chris explains to the crowd that at the beginning he made "a tremendous error" and Will gave "the nastiest look" a drummer can give to a singer.
He asks the crowd to help him say sorry at the end of the song, which they did.

Q.  Hi Oracle! What happened in the ending of this video? Thanks!

Many musicians use click tracks to help keep time and synchronize - especially at live shows. Much like a metronome they click - hence the name - and give precise indications. In the video, Chris has come in too early so he & Will discuss how many clicks it is before his cue to sing/play.
