Q.  Hi! I heard that Coldplay was recording with Rik Simpson in Malibu/LA. Was it the whole band or just Chris? Thanks!

That particular session was just Rik but that's obviously not always the case.
It's worth remembering the band often do bits & pieces alone, together or in smaller groups (Jonny & Chris, Chris & Rik etc.) They have always recorded together & separately.

Q.  Hi Oracle,
Just curious, generally (not specifically Coldplay) how long is there between an album being completely recorded (the last day in studio) and the release/the album going on sale to the public?

Thanks :) LOVE YOU!

It depends. As you can imagine there are many reasons that it can be faster or slower than average. The last day of recording in the studio, is followed by post-production, mixing, mastering and manufacture - there may also be (as is the case with Coldplay) late additions to the album.
It's usually been 2 or 3 months after the songs are recorded before album release but that's not set in stone.

Q.  Hey Oracle,
Is Phil Harvey being in the studio with Coldplay?
And also is he writing songs or playing instruments?

Phil is usually around during the recording sessions although not always in the studio but no, he isn't a writing/performing member of the band.

Q.  Hello Oracle!
Happy belated New Year to you:)
I was wondering, when Chris records his vocal parts does he play along with an instrument? Or does he sing them with the music playing behind him?
Thanks so much, hope you have a wonderful day!
Ethan :)

These days, it's actually not all that common to record a band playing all together, rarer that a vocalist would sing along with an instrument. It's usual to record via multitracking part by part and then to layer up. The drums & bass first followed by guitar... the vocals are almost always after the main instruments are down.
That said, Coldplay have recorded as a band (still with vocals and overdubs added after) - a lot of Mylo Xyloto was recorded in the big space at The Beehive.

Q.  I heard rumors of Coldplay going back into the studio and recording another album, instead of touring for Ghost Stories. is this true?

It's not "instead of". The plan was always to do a very small tour of Ghost Stories, which they did. They visited a very few number places at intimate venues.
They returned to the studio soon after which was also the plan.

Q.  Hey there
My question is why did the band record Ghost Stories in Guy's home not in the bakery? Do they still own there?

The band still write & record at The Bakery (& Beehive) but not all the time.
Ghost Stories wasn't recorded at Guy's house; some parts were but not the whole album. Some of it was recorded in London, some in the U.S...

Q.  Thanks for your excellent work Oracle I wonder if you could clarify has Chris relocated to LA for a while?
How will this affect recording the next album? Will the other guys move out there too or will he commute back to London?

As you may know, I'm not keen on commenting on any personal aspects but the work part is something you need not worry about. As far as I know Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol lives (at times) in the U.S. and that works for both his bands. It doesn't really matter to be honest.
When a band tours, they're all in the same place at the same time. Writing & recording can be done in various ways - here, there, anywhere. It's all good.
