Q.  Hi Oracle!
I was watching Jools Holland and I noticed Jonny sitting behind the piano during the start of Magic but the piano was playing itself, so I was wondering If Jonny played the intro or was he sat there for another reason?
Thanks!

A few people have asked about the piano playing itself. This isn't the first time the band have adopted this technique (don't forget, it also featured in the Christmas Lights video). More of you seem to have noticed with Magic especially as Chris wasn't sat at it.
Jonny does indeed play the beginning which can be seen more clearly from footage of their recent performance for Sports Relief.

Q.  I was looking through the pictures of Coldplay at the Palace of Auburn Hills and I noticed something: In the pictures, Danielle took one of Chris at the piano, and one from Lindsay A has Chris at a differently painted piano. Does he usually use two or is it somehow the same one?

Carly A took a clearer shot of the same piano as in the photo by Lindsay A but as you noticed they are different to the photo taken by Danielle.
I'm guessing you didn't see the MX Tour? There were 3 stages: the main stage, the X stage and C stage. Carly & Lindsay's photo is of the X stage and Danielle's is of the main stage.
There has to be a keyboard/piano at each of these hence them being painted differently.
I'm more fascinated by the fact you didn't mention the different colour t-shirt Chris is wearing in those two photos...

Q.  What type of piano does Chris use for the concerts? Does he switch pianos? If so, what piano does he use for The Scientist? It has such a unique sound.

Actually I'm not sure what he's using at the moment because his usual one had technical faults at the Capital FM Summertime Ball gig. He then borrowed one from Jason (Mr. Xylobands) so that spare has become the main one for now.
He uses an electric piano though, not a standard upright.

Q.  Hey Oracle!
Is the piano in the Christmas Lights video hand painted by the crew making the video or was it already painted when it arrived on set? It is stunning!

Beautiful isn't it? It was hand painted by an artist prior to the video shoot.

Q.  Hey awesome Oracle!
I'm really confused about something. You see, sometimes when Coldplay performs live, and Chris plays the piano, it produces a non-piano sound, such as in Fix You. How is this possible if a piano is not electronic? Does Chris somehow distort the sound?
Thank you so much, this has been bugging me :)

The piano IS electronic so that explains how Chris plays different sounds. It's a Yamaha by the way.

Q.  hello...
I was wondering what brand of piano did Chris use in the Grammys (or who did the painting on it) thank you

It was once again the band's talented personal assistant Vicki who painted this piano. It was finished just in time for the Grammys.

Q.  When Politik ends on the Viva la Vida tour, Chris plays a nice classic piece on the piano, and I wonder, is it "Le Moulin" by Yann Tiersen? couse parts of it sounds like that song.
Thanks

I actually answered this on the 7th Jan so as that was only last week it should be easy to find. I am a fan of Mr Tiersen and can be frequently found whistling his music from Amelie. Yann's music is typically French and so I can understand why you'd think it was a piece by him but as you will see when you look, it's not.

Q.  I saw Coldplay in Birmingham on December 6th and during the concert Chris played a beautiful piece of classical music. It was piece I recognised but do not know the name of.......what was it? I would love to know cheers. Jason

There were actually two classical/instrumental piano pieces played. One was after the stage b set and was an original composition Postcards From Far Away that is on Prospekt's March. As you say you recognised it, chances are that it was the equally beautiful yet haunting piece Chris plays at the end of Politik. It's the sublime Gnossienne No. 1 by Erik Satie.
