Q.  Almighty Oracle,
What happened to the MX artwork after it was displayed in Camden Town? I would love to see it if it is still on display somewhere!
Thanks, Ben.

The purpose of the MX exhibition was to raise funds for Kids Co. Whether sold at the gallery or via the online auction, all items are now sold out.

Q.  Dear Oracle !

On the Live 2012 Cd there is writing Charlotte.

Who is Charlotte? Why is it written on it?

Thank you !

The question is not 'who is Charlotte?', but 'where is Charlotte?'
Charlotte is the largest city in the U.S. state of North Carolina. The band played
at the Time Warner Cable Arena on the Mylo Xyloto tour, hence its name appearing on the Live 2012 disc along with many other cities they performed in.

Q.  Dear Oracle,
I was watching this Coldplay Mylo tour live documentary and in the end they play a song in Chris' voice. Please tell me which song is that ?

I presume you mean as the end credits roll on Live 2012?
The song is called Up With the Birds.

Q.  Where did the idea of the running man animation come from for Charlie Brown? I absolutely love it and I have always wondered!

Sorry if you have already answered this one.
much much love

The multicoloured fuzzy man (as he's often referred to) was one of the first graphics associated with Mylo Xyloto.
The original plan was to use "him" in a video for the first single but it just didn't quite work. Everyone liked the idea so much that when the opportunity to use him as part of the live shows came up, not only was it was a perfect solution but a perfect fit.

Q.  Hello Oracle!
Happy belated New Year to you:)
I was wondering, when Chris records his vocal parts does he play along with an instrument? Or does he sing them with the music playing behind him?
Thanks so much, hope you have a wonderful day!
Ethan :)

These days, it's actually not all that common to record a band playing all together, rarer that a vocalist would sing along with an instrument. It's usual to record via multitracking part by part and then to layer up. The drums & bass first followed by guitar... the vocals are almost always after the main instruments are down.
That said, Coldplay have recorded as a band (still with vocals and overdubs added after) - a lot of Mylo Xyloto was recorded in the big space at The Beehive.

Q.  Dear Oracle,
A while back I found these lyrics on a piece of Mylo Xyloto artwork.
"The two of us, we drove
A speeding ghost and a shadow
Luminous the road to the sea
We swam from the shallows
To bottle lightning's glow
Where we're gonna run, God only knows."
Where are these from? Is this from an upcoming project?

No. As you (may) know there were quite a few songs written for Mylo Xyloto that weren't included. The lyrics on the artwork are likely to be from one of the discarded tracks but I'm afraid I don't know which one. MX and GS are the only 2 albums that I didn't hear any of the songs that didn't make it.

Q.  O knowledgable Oracle,
What kind of guitar did Johnny use during the MX tour, and I mean the one that had the graffiti like the other instruments. I felt like it was a stratocaster but I wasn't sure what kind. And also, who did the atwork for the bands instruments?

I've actually discussed the artwork many times but here's Matt:

Same guy that did everything else, a graffiti artist named Paris. There were Strats and Teles, mostly painted by him.

Q.  Is it true that the band nearly finished a new LP and then scrapped it to start again?

Yes but it wasn't Ghost Stories. It was after Viva, the (non) album before Mylo Xyloto if you will. They'd recorded many songs - most of which were more acoustic sounding than anything. They changed direction and the concept of MX was born.

Q.  While I was watching the latest performance of Colplay where they're playing Magic at Sport Relief 2014 I noticed that Jonny first of all plays the piano (which is great I think!) and then he switches to his guitar - but the piano sounds are still there. Do they use a pedal for that? Is most of their instrumental music played live at all, since they have so many different layers of sounds in their songs - especially in the ones from Mylo Xyloto and Ghost stories:

Thank you and greetings from Germany! :)

I've touched on this subject before but it's important to differentiate between not playing live and miming. Their performances are all real and are not mimed. Everything you see is happening in the moment but there are obviously musical parts that are replicated as it would be impossible to play every sound as you say. Another example is the strings in Viva. Keyboards and MIDI systems are equipped to play these parts at live shows.
FYI I mentioned MIDI last week when listing Roadie #42's roles. It stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface.
