Q.  Hey Oracle,

Why does Chris Martin after, I don't know, 10 years of playing his Yamaha GT20 pianos, suddenly switch to a different one?

Greetings from Holland
Nathan.

Given Miller is Chris' keyboard technician (and all round genius with a bunch of technology), I asked him about the current key situation.
"This new one can 'play itself' in A Sky Full Of Stars and Magic. What it plays is actually a midi recording of Chris playing the song in rehearsals". He's actually had it since the Christmas Lights video where we did the same trick".
It plays in time with the song and the screens because of Miller's clever synching.

Q.  Hi Oracle!
I was watching Jools Holland and I noticed Jonny sitting behind the piano during the start of Magic but the piano was playing itself, so I was wondering If Jonny played the intro or was he sat there for another reason?
Thanks!

A few people have asked about the piano playing itself. This isn't the first time the band have adopted this technique (don't forget, it also featured in the Christmas Lights video). More of you seem to have noticed with Magic especially as Chris wasn't sat at it.
Jonny does indeed play the beginning which can be seen more clearly from footage of their recent performance for Sports Relief.

Q.  Hi:) Did Chris learned the magic tricks he did in Magic video? I mean, he really did that? Thanks, love you.

Chris was actually taught the magic tricks on set by magician, Joe Labero.

Q.  Dearest Oracle,

I love the official video to MAGIC? Chris is so sweet and handsome as Christopher the assistant ;-). But could you please tell me , who are the actor and actress who are playing Claude and Cecile ? And where is the venue for the video shot ?

Thank you so much

yours
MaGic -)

Ziyi Zhang is playing the part of Cecile but Chris is playing both the parts of Christophe and Claude.

It was directed by Jonas Akerlund and the "venue" doesn't actually exist; it was purpose built for the video shoot.
For those asking, Guy, Jonny & Will aren't playing any parts as they weren't in the video.

Q.  I've just checked out the Tumblr page of Coldplay and I saw this picture of Chris (I think it's Chris) looking up towards a camera in a swimming pool. Am I right to conclude that this is a picture of the video shoot for the single Magic?
If so, can you give some more information about the video shoot?

You're not right, Feike. I can't comment too much on the cryptic photo at this stage but I can definitely tell you that it is not the video for Magic. For that is - as they say in the filming world - already in the can.

Q.  Dear Oracle, could you tell me who produced the new album, Ghost Stories? I know that Jon Hopkins produced Midnight, but did he also produce the rest of the album? Thanks!

Ghost Stories was a collaborative effort. As you said, Jon produced Midnight, Rik Simpson & Dan Green were of course involved and Paul Epworth also worked on the album. Guy actually did a lot of the production this time round.

Q.  I'm glad to hear that the new album will be out in May. I can't wait to hear it.
But I do have a question about the songs that have been released so far form the album. Is Magic the first official song of the new album or is it Midnight? And will there be an official video for Magic?

Midnight is the first official song from Ghost Stories but available via video only and Magic is the first official single. There will be a video so keep your eyes out for that.

Q.  Hey Orcale,

I was curious on the inspiration behind the new album cover for Ghost Stories? The single, Magic, seems to share the same original influence as Claude Vonstroke's Urban Animal from last year.

Cheers.

If I'm honest, apart from it being a bird, I don't see any similarity between it and Mila Furstova's delicate artwork.
