Q.  Hi, does Chris regret running in to the crowd at Sound Relief ? And what did you think of it? ;-) thx.

Well... Personally for me that was not the best idea Chris has ever had. Possibly the worst! In fact, I'll happily regret it on his behalf.
Ok, so I wasn't there but when I saw the footage, I did think it was one of Chris' more risky moments of spontaneity. I've seen Chris react to adrenalin and the heat of the moment before but this was the heat of the moment quite literally which may have explained the not too clever decision to run. The weather was very warm during the band's set & Chris was looking rather hot by the time they got to the closer, Fix You. It wasn't a good idea for anyone to go charging around after playing a full set. Let's put it this way, if we went back in time, I would hope Chris wouldn't repeat it as he certainly didn't feel well afterwards.

Q.  Hi
Pleeeaseee, can you tell me where could I see a video of Chris in a top hat? And as I remember he was playing accordion/harmonica.

At first I thought you meant this one.
I've never seen Chris playing an accordion but he's played a harmonica many times.
I'll have a look around as the only time I have seen Chris wear a top hat was at a wedding (apart from the above Christmas message video).

Q.  @filiprasmusson
Is there any reason that only Chris performed Atlas?

For anyone that missed the news, Atlas received this year's Hollywood Song Award. Chris collected the award & performed the song at the ceremony (21 October).

In answer, it was purely a logistical decision. Chris has performed at such events on his own before - or with Jonny. Atlas worked perfectly with just Chris singing at a piano. It was a fantastic performance.

Q.  Dear Oracle,
What's the strangest question you've ever been asked on here?
P.S. Do you know of anywhere I could watch Coldplay's performance on Hollywood Film Awards?

Too many strange ones to be honest (no offence, chaps!)

I have watched it online, albeit a shaky, amateur phone recording. We haven't got an official link so it's a case of searching the web. It's not the band by the way, just Chris & a piano.

Q.  Just a quick question.

Do Coldplay actually pen their own music to paper during the writing process and then refine it or, do they have recordings of songs in various stages and put them down on paper after the music is refined?

Or is it neither or both??

Many thanks!

Chris writes the lyrics down and maybe notes for chords and whatnot but as he can't read music, he can't write it either.

Q.  Hi dear Oracle,
On this link at 0:20, listen what does he say? "Sakartvelo"? I really wonder what he said because it sounds like Sakartvelo and it's my country's name. Thanks a lot.

This show was filmed in Madrid and so what you hear is Chris repeating what he says at 0.18 - "Let's jump together" - in Spanish: "Saltar por favor" which means 'jump please'.

Q.  Thanks for your excellent work Oracle I wonder if you could clarify has Chris relocated to LA for a while?
How will this affect recording the next album? Will the other guys move out there too or will he commute back to London?

As you may know, I'm not keen on commenting on any personal aspects but the work part is something you need not worry about. As far as I know Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol lives (at times) in the U.S. and that works for both his bands. It doesn't really matter to be honest.
When a band tours, they're all in the same place at the same time. Writing & recording can be done in various ways - here, there, anywhere. It's all good.

Q.  Hi Oracle! Do you know if Chris read The Hunger Games: Catching Fire to write Atlas? I think this song really reflects Katniss' feelings over the book.

Well, as I mentioned t'other day, this isn't a case of a previously available song being selected for the film, it's a brand new track written specifically for Catching Fire.
With that in mind, I'm not sure how Chris (or anyone) could ever write a track for a book to film adaptation without reading it.
What I'm saying is, knowing him as I do, I don't need to ask him to know that the answer is yes.

Q.  Hey Oracle!
I was at the concert in Sydney 17 November and Chris said something about 'showing your Beyonce fingers' when Princess of China was playing? I don't know, probs heard it wrong haha.

Sounds like you sort of heard right actually, though I think he said "give me your Beyonce hands" rather than fingers. Unless it was the hand flicking she did in her Single Ladies video I don't know what the move is.

FYI: He didn't mention Beyonce's hands at the 2nd Sydney show the following night.

Q.  Did Chris have to learn to ride a unicycle for the Paradise video?

No, he already knew how to ride one.
