Q.  Almighty Oracle,
What happened to the MX artwork after it was displayed in Camden Town? I would love to see it if it is still on display somewhere!
Thanks, Ben.

The purpose of the MX exhibition was to raise funds for Kids Co. Whether sold at the gallery or via the online auction, all items are now sold out.

Q.  Hey, I've always been a fan of the Ghost Stories album and I absolutely love the animations. Do you know which artist designed them? Also, do you happen to know the inspiration behind them ?

I don't know if you mean the inspiration behind the artwork or the animation but either way, it was the music.
The band commissioned Mila Furstova for the artwork and there were many discussions and ideas bounced around before giving Mila a lot of free reign to design and make her beautiful etchings.
You can read more about it here and here.
Trunk Animation took Mila's artwork and brought it to life in their incredible animation.

Q.  Dear Oracle,
I was wondering if there is a particular reason as to why no members of Coldplay ever feature on any album artworks? Thank you & I hope all is well, I love what you do for Coldplayers around the world!

They do, just not on the covers. I can name hundreds of artists that also don't.
An album contains a body of work and the right artwork can reflect the mood of the entire record. Coldplay don't strike me as a band whose image would do the same. I don't really think a band photo would tell you anything about their albums.
I can't imagine Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon or Muse's Black Holes and Revelations with a picture of the respective bands on the cover. Ooh I just realised that coincidentally Storm Thorgerson designed both of those sleeves.
That's not to say there haven't been some ace album sleeves with artists on the front (Prince, Michael Jackson, Queen...)

Q.  How was A Rush of Blood to the Head album art and singles made?

I've mentioned Solve Sundsbo a couple of times before, but regarding the actually process, there's an interview in which he briefly explains how it came about.

Q.  How is album artwork chosen?

There isn't a simple response to this question. It can come about many different ways. It really does depend on many things.
There can be ideas that start as one thing and change into another. There could be mood boards that develop. They can be through suggestions or introductions from other people.
The Ghost Stories art journey sort of started through coincidence (fate).

Q.  O knowledgable Oracle,
What kind of guitar did Johnny use during the MX tour, and I mean the one that had the graffiti like the other instruments. I felt like it was a stratocaster but I wasn't sure what kind. And also, who did the atwork for the bands instruments?

I've actually discussed the artwork many times but here's Matt:

Same guy that did everything else, a graffiti artist named Paris. There were Strats and Teles, mostly painted by him.

Q.  Hey Oracle,
I realised that Coldplay seem to hire artists to create the artwork for their albums and I was wondering if they ever created art between themselves?
Thank you!

I prefer the word commission because sometimes the band are shown / see artwork they love and then approach the artist to work with them.
They have also created their own artwork. For example, the Parachutes album cover was their last minute creation and some of the Viva artwork - which you can find on the tour programme cover.

Q.  Who made the artwork for Ghosts Stories?

Mila Furstova is the amazing artist. As always, the band have been involved with the process but Mila created it.

Q.  Hello there, Oracle!
I was wondering if the artwork for Mylo Xyloto (like that whole painted wall in the CD booklet thing) is a real wall or if it was made in some kind of photo editing software... or both. I think I heard that Will Champion did a lot of painting for the sets and stage props and what not but I was just curious because I absolutely love the style. I'm currently working on my own sort of drawing/painting thing inspired by that painted wall. Or whatever it may be. Thank you! :)

The graffiti wall does exist although it is 9 panels that make it whole. There's no digital trickery, it's all real spray paint.
Will didn't take on a leading role, they were all involved in creating it and the ideas behind it. There are individual touches here and there but Paris painted the sets and instruments.
