The months of pre-production, gigging and studio time which preceded Coldplay’s arrival in LiverpoolÕs Parr St Studios had not been wasted. When the band began jamming new tracks such as Yellow, Everything’s Not Lost and Trouble just before their New Year break, the album’s projected tracklisting quickly changed. It became apparent that some of the older songs had been surpassed and were no longer going to make the final cut.

Not so for Shiver, a song which had been around seemingly forever but which no one had tired of. The backing track had been laid down in Wales just after the Bellatrix tour and Chris and Jonny completed their parts within a day at Parr St. The track was immediately biked down to Parlophone in London with the suggestion that it be released as a single as soon as possible.
