Eventually though, the EP performed its original purpose. One Debs Wild of (then) Universal Records became enthusiastic and passed it on to Dan Keeling of Parlophone and Caroline Ellery of BMG Publishing. It was with these two companies that the band signed contracts in the early summer of 1999. The Safety EP had made a profit.

The artwork and title, incidentally, come from a photograph taken by a friend of the band, Jon Hilton. His long exposure shot caught Chris’ moving head perfectly framed by the SAFETY DOOR sign at one of the band’s early London gigs.
