Possibly the pivotal moment in the band’s history was their performance at the Camden Falcon on December 7 1998 in front of, amongst about 150 others, Simon Williams.

The gig was a good one and the co-founder of Fierce Panda records and veteran journalist was impressed. In the New Year’s edition of NME, the band were astounded to find themselves listed amongst the magazine’s tips for 1999. After an outstanding performance at one of Williams’ Panda nights, Coldplay had become one of the hottest unsigned bands in the country.
